GFWC Maryland

GFWC MD Metropolitan Community Club of Montgomery County

The Metropolitan Community Club of Montgomery (MCC) welcomes new members who are interested in lending their support to local Montgomery County community services and agencies. We support a number of local charities throughout the year through donations of funds and services (see list below). Our membership consists of women working inside and outside of the home who want to contribute to their community.
Also, MCC offers an array of social and educational activities giving members many opportunities to make new friends as well as enjoy the many art, education, and dining venues offered in our area. Some of our most popular social and educational activities include our book club and museum exhibits. Please contact us by email, if interested in attending a meeting or learning more about our club.

They give families and individuals access to fresh produce as well as meat, dairy and pantry items. They are currently supporting  2,000 families (7,000 individuals) with food at least three times a month. Montgomery County Family Justice Center (MCFJC) for Domestic Violence Initiative, https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/fjc/  has been providing services and resources to victims of domestic violence for over 15 years. It was created as a one-stop shop for victims of abuse where all resources can be accessed in one place. In addition to promoting public awareness, it provides legal counsel, career counseling, and basic needs such as shelter and clothing and other resources.  Its model is now considered by the U.S. Department of Justice a best practice in service delivery to families affected by domestic violence. AbodesJoy, http://www.abodesjoy.org --trains and empowers diverse learners – women, nonbinary people, and transgender people – in home repair (at no cost to them) to build skills, confidence, and community.  It is a new organization that aims to help the deepening housing crisis in the Maryland and DC area by helping women participants learn housing-maintenance/construction skills that build confidence, community and better understanding of home equity and economic mobility. The Bare Necessities Foundation, Inc., https://www.barenecessitiesfoundation.org/— provides  basic necessities such as furniture and household goods to immigrant families to make their home in Montgomery County. This relatively new organization, has served over 250 families in just 18 months collecting and delivering furniture and other household necessities so that these families can furnish their apartments and start a new life. Girls on the Run, http://girlsontherunofmoco.org  --offers girls (3rd to 8th grade) lessons to develop positive life skills and build confidence while training to complete a 5K run.
